I'm Still Here!! An Update About My Family and More

Hi everyone!! It's been a long time. I'm sorry. I really want to keep this blog up, but the holidays made it hard.  And if there's one thing I know, family comes first.

We had a nice holiday season, although it was very, very sad with my mom.  We all knew it was her last year knowing us, and we all left the room on various occasions so no one would see us crying.  It was especially hard to see that happen to my Dad. He has been so amazing with my mom, and I'm so very proud of him.

Here is a shot from Christmas day:

And other of my sweet babies, just for fun :)

My mother moved to level 3 care, meaning she is at the end stages of the disease. She has progressed more quickly than anyone could imagine, but in a way I'm grateful for that. Of course I wish I had her longer, and I dream many nights a week that she is still "here," but she dreaded this disease and I know she would have rather progressed quickly than slowly.  She is at the point where she can't do any activities of daily living, including feeding, dressing etc.  I don't think she knows me most times I see her, other than maybe as a person she trusts.  She does, strangely, remember my daughter's name.  My lord, she wanted that granddaughter, and it turns out it will be the last name she forgets :)

My mother's mother, also struck with the disease, passed away earlier this month.  She was almost 95, and had it for over ten years.  She was an amazing woman, and I loved her dearly. She lived an incredible life, one that we celebrate more than mourn.  It is just sad that my mother doesn't know she died, wouldn't really understand it I guess.  It just strikes me as so cruel that a disease can take from a person the ability to understand that their mother died.  But no one ever argued that this disease was anything other than cruel.

Anyway, onto something I saw yesterday that I want to share. There is no commission on these, so purchases on't fund research, but I had to show you anyway, in honor of my mom, who loved almost nothing more than (1) handbags and (2) deals!

Here is the original "Bombette" bag by Viktor & Rolf, for $2000:
Here

And then the $68 version - amazing!
These can all be found HERE

What Really Bugs Me About "Before" and "After" Photos

I recently saw this photo on Pinterest about contouring makeup, and it really bugged me.

She's gorgeous, no? Before and after - stunning.
And the contouring is very well done - perfect even.

BUT. Do you see the tricks used in the after photo to make it seem like the makeup can do more than it actually CAN do?

Here are my problems with the After shots:

1. Her hair. It's greasy and pushed back in the before photos.  Little by little, it is pulled forward.  By photo 5, it is hanging in front of her shirt. In photo 6, it is clean, big, shiny, AND COVERING PART OF HER EYE AND HALF OF HER CHEEK. This is important - the image is meant to make you think that the makeup alone made her face "thinner." And it did. Her nose looks awesome, her cheekbones chiseled. But mostly, it was the covering her face with her hair that made it look smaller.

2. Her sweater. Same tactic. It stars pretty low, making her face/neck look large. In each photo, the sweater moves up a bit, making her neck smaller and smaller. The sloppy purple t-shirt is completely covered in photo 6, and the shirt is so high it could strangle her.

So, please know that my point in writing this is not to criticize the makeup artist (so talented), the model (gorgeous), or the photographer (great images).

My point is to show that what makeup can do is amazing, but we all should reign in our expectations, and be realistic. Women, including this model, can be gorgeous without makeup, with light makeup, and with heavy makeup. I happen to love the "lots and lots of makeup" look, like on this after photo. I just wish they had showed us the contouring without the hair and clothing tricks. I'm sure the model would have been equally gorgeous, and it wouldn't set unrealistic expectations for people who see it.

The BEST $1.50 product ever!

You all know ELF (Eyes, Lips, Face) right? It's the best. I can't say I've tried all of their products, but I've tried a LOT.  Here are a few of my favorites that you just can't miss if you want to save serious money.

First, the makeup wipes. It makes me crazy to spend $6-9 on Neutrogena, Sephora, or similar wipes for my daughter and me. She doesn't wear makeup of course, but likes the convenience and wants to be like Mommy, so I buy them for her, too.

This is what I buy now, exclusively. And only when they are half off, like today. That's $1.50 a pack!!

 or

As far as the other products I've tried, here is what I LOVE:

$5 today:
This cream eyeshadow. This is the color I use, but there are several.
Cost = $1.50 (sale)

And these, for $1. I need to try a lot of lipsticks to get the exact right color, and it seems almost free when they are $1. I have this red one and really like it.

So those are my four absolute favorite products, but it's fun to go and read the reviews on other products, too, as there are usually more than enough to be assured that the product is good (or bad occasionally). Happy shopping, wherever you are doing it!

Not Valentino Rockstud, But Close Enough for Me!

I have been lusting after something, anything, from the Valentino Rock Stud collection for a long time. If you can afford it, lucky you! What are you waiting for? Go here and buy some!

But if you're like me and can't afford it, you may have been waiting for knockoffs. They're not really knockoffs I guess, because they are not pretending to be by Valentino. They just happen to look very similar. Pure coincidence, I'm sure ;)

These are designed by Julianne Hough for Sole Society.
Click any image to visit:

For these, most sizes are sold out, so you have to have smallish feet:

And from the same store (many also by Julianne Hough).
I love all of these, and all of them are so reasonable priced, from $59-$89.

This is my favorite, and I think I'll ask for it for Christmas (with the Valentino type pumps of course :)

Isn't this store the best!? I'm loving everything!

See you soon,
Stacy

I Can't Afford These, But maybe YOU Can!

I'm traveling with some girlfriends this weekend, and am of course bringing ALL of my makeup. I'm hoping to get a lot of before and afters and new looks to show you. This is the one I particularly want to do... I love the eyes and lips. And perfect skin. And hair. I could go on.

So stay tuned for that. There might be some drinking involved this weekend, but I promise I'll post everything anyway!

So on to what I can't afford. I don't know who the people are that are snatching these bags up, but they're out there. This sale has been live to 90 minutes and the bags are half gone! (The ones I'm showing you are still available though). I have a passion for vintage designer bags....someday I'm going to buy one!

They are HERE if you are interested.
